What is a Psychotherapist?

Psychotherapy is primarily a talk-based therapy and is intended to help people improve and maintain their mental health and well-being. Registered Psychotherapists work with individuals, couples and families in individual and group settings. Psychotherapy occurs when the Registered Psychotherapist (RP) and client enter into a psychotherapeutic relationship where both work together to bring about positive change in the client’s thinking, feeling, behaviour and social functioning. Individuals usually seek psychotherapy when they have thoughts, feelings, moods and behaviours that are adversely affecting their day-to-day lives, relationships and the ability to enjoy life. As health care professionals, psychotherapists work in a wide range of settings. Settings include: private practice, hospitals, clinics, care facilities, rehabilitation centres/programs, employee assistance programs, universities, and more.

Christina Skoulos-Efthimiou

Christina is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. She is also a Board-Certified Hypnotherapist and Hypnotherapy Trainer, an NLP Master Coach and Practitioner, and a Registered Kinesiologist with the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario with over 20 years of experience in the health, fitness, and wellness industry. Empowering individuals to overcome obstacles and harmonize their lives, she believes that everything is connected on many different levels. With that attitude, Christina attempts to integrate the many tools, learnings, gifts and sources of wisdom that she has collected over the years into her psychotherapy practice. Her approach ultimately strives in helping to support and heal the entire individual in a natural, holistic and integrative way using tools, techniques, and therapies such as: mindfulness, psychosensory, cognitive behavioural, energy psychology, spirituality, hypnotherapy, experiential, emotionally focused, expressive arts, movement, and more. Therapy is a process of growth and self-discovery, and in her sessions, Christina promotes behavioral transformation, holistic healing and reconnection to yourself by encouraging awareness, a positive outlook and the adoption of new attitudes, feelings and reactions.
